Music Monday

August 30, 2010 // MP3 + Monday + Music

There are days when you have to question why you do anything at all. Days where you question the people you know, the city you live, the choices you’ve made, the life you have. Days when the idea of crawling into a cave in some remote God-forsaken place sounds like bliss. Thankfully, there are songs like this.

Monster

August 27, 2010 // Hip Hop + MP3 + Music

Kanye just dropped this like an hour ago. I’ve had it on repeat ever since. This is the second track off of a five-song album he’s putting out with Jay-Z entitled Watch The Throne. Mind you, that’s in addition to his upcoming album. Say what you will about the man, but he puts in work and constantly puts out the como se dice? The illest?

Ps. Nicki Minaj KILLS IT.

Blue Notes

August 27, 2010 // Design + Music + Video

Reid Miles’ amazing Blue Note album covers recreated… IN 3D!!!!!!! Seeing good type done with video is refreshing. It’s usually so half-assed and slapped on—especially with subtitles. Man On Fire got it right, though. Somebody needs to rip this idea off and make their movie’s opening titles in this fashion. I would pay multiple American dollars to see that.

Cee Lo // F**k You

August 24, 2010 // Music + Video

For some reason, I always think that Cee Lo is just a really short fat martian but gee golly is he able to make some catchy tunes. His latest video is fantastic and terribly NSFW in the area of hilarious profanity. And though it’s a little late on the typographic After Effects movement, the video is really well done and utilizes some lovely condensed type.

But seriously, try not to giggle at the back up singers’ gold digger parts.

I’d like to think that the way this song came together was like a love story. Slowdive made the first move by asking Washed Out what brand wayfarers he was wearing. From there, a romance blossomed. Violens captured the whole moment from behind a dune on his vintage 8mm—from which content he created this lovely love.

For Emma

August 13, 2010 // MP3 + Music

So apparently Myspace is still relevant in some way as they transmit music somehow. This is old, but it came on my iTunes last night and I stopped what I was doing, sat back, and took a swig of my gingerale (always chilled, never on the rocks). If Justin Vernon were sitting on my couch with me, I would have hugged him. It would have been awkward and one of those weird sitting-2/3rds-turned-man-on-man hugs, but it would have been really nice.

Music Monday

Everyone’s favorite zombie killing voodoo warrior is back with another EP, entitled Lazers Never Die. Collie Buddz and Lindi Ortega provide the vocals on this jawn. What’s hilarious is that every single person that was involved with this song is whiter than white. Diplo, Switch, Collie, Lindi. It’s like they mixed rice with milk, placed it on copy paper, packed it in some snow, and when they took it out, it was weed.

Mikey Rocks, of Cool Kids fame, just came out with a couple solo joints that he damn sure better be proud of. The one below, Bat Phone, is just so smooth. It’s like metaphorical butter for my ears; because real butter in your ears is weird.

NPR and the Magnetic Zeros

I can’t get enough of Jade Castrinos in this video. She’s like this little kid that couldn’t be happier being where she is at that very moment. And her voice is amazing. It makes me want to quit everything I’m doing, grow a beard, get a backpack and walk to Los Angeles.

The version of Home they do is incredible as well.
