Sandra Suy

February 26, 2010 // Fashion + Illustration

If you looked up the definition of “delicate illustration complimented by clever use of color” you would find this here gorgeous work by Sandra Suy. Now, why you’d look up the definition of a phrase is beyond me. From what I understand, dictionaries only carry the definitions of words. You’re such a dummy sometimes.

Marlene Marino

She’s Cuban and an amazing photographer. You might have seen some of her work in the last few Urban Outfitter catalogs and lookbooks. To me, her work has this timeless feel to it, especially when presented in black and white. Because she’s such a classy broad, her website also follows her simple elegant aesthetic. Usted va muchacha.

Linen Puma

February 25, 2010 // Apparel + Fashion

I love it when boundaries are pushed. It’s essential that they are, so that the design bargaining process can begin. It’s the only way you can move forward. Unfortunately, it can end up in something hideous or just straight retarded. Sometimes, the risk pays off. Take the Puma Urban Vistech Linen. It looks like a hightop, (which are so hot right now) but because it’s made of linen, it bunches up around your ankle for a really unique look. The colors are fantastic, too. The army green is low key and there’s just enough magenta and yellow to make it pop.

While crazy shoes don’t always tickle my pickle, these ones I would absolutely rock. The rest of your outfit would have to be toned down, but worn right, these could make all the ladies say, “Yeah.” Now, I’m sure there are people out there who vehemently disagree with me. Those people are communists.

The Year of Magical Thinking

February 23, 2010 // Book + Review

Joan Didion is a writer of stunning quality and heart breaking clarity. The Year of Magical Thinking is a novel about her dealings with the (sudden) death of her husband of forty years, John Dunne. It is a book about mortality and the inevitability of it happening to us all; and despite knowing this, our refusal and inability to accept it.

Luis Sanchis

February 23, 2010 // Fashion + Photography

I need to get into the fashion photography business. You essentially get to stand there and shoot beautiful people all day. Other than a lifetime of training your eye which you can’t learn except for by experience and realizing the limitations and capabilities of your equipment, models, and setting, how hard can it be? I’m gonna do it. But first things first. I’ll have to set up a Myspace page so that I can interact with my fans. Watch out, Luis Sanchis. I’m gunnin’ for you, mister.

Music Monday

February 22, 2010 // Monday + MP3 + Music

Baby / I could rule the world / With a girl / Like you on my arm.

Does it matter that those are the only words sung? There are times when the less said is infinitely more powerful than the more. 14 perfectly chosen words can trump a thousand. To resist the urge to fill the space is to discover what it is you really mean in the first place.

I <3 Letterpress

February 21, 2010 // Letterpress + Print + Video

Letterpressing something makes it special. There’s a handmade quality to it that makes it hard to throw away. This beautiful little diddy exemplifies this classic craft. It makes me want to do nothing but hole myself up in a studio and make things with my finest bottle of gingerale. The video was shot by a guy named Stebbs. I don’t know much about him other than he looks pretty young and is talented behind the camera making these short filmed observations. Post script: The White Stripes was an inspired music choice.

Dazed & Confused

February 19, 2010 // Fashion + Photography

Despite being Matthew McConaughey’s greatest triumph, Dazed & Confused is also a magazine. For their February issue, they had Viktor & Rolf, who are fantastic designers, team up with lovely photographer Josh Olins for a spread that’s so cool, I’d let it kick me in my Viktor & Wolf repeatedly. (See what I did there?)

Tengo gusto

February 18, 2010 // Random

These are just some images I’ve found. There’s no rhyme or reason to why I like them. They just grab me. Maybe it’s the color or composition. Perhaps the message or execution is what draws my eye. They all just demand my attention and I love them for it.

Music Monday

February 15, 2010 // Monday + MP3 + Music

Thao With The Get Down Stay Down is a long name for a band and an exhausting example of why I hate capitalizing. That shift key really takes it out of me. But don’t cry for me, Argentina. I’ll be fine. I’m a man. I only allow myself one weeping a day. Today’s was already spent during Olympic figure skating. Such grace!
