Debbie Carlos

June 30, 2010 // Photography

Ol’ Deb (I decided to call her Ol’ Deb.) has a series of photographs entitled Human Nature. They were all taken in Chicago’s Field Museum. All the animals are taxidermic and have been dead for years. The landscapes are all painted and the foliage is all fake. However, there is this lived-in, intimate, loving quality about the colors and composition. It’s like a Disney movie inside of an old folk’s home.

Music Monday

June 28, 2010 // MP3 + Monday + Music

This is an oldie (in internet years) but a goodie. All music in the summertime should sound exactly like this or exactly like Wham. And seeing as I’m The Boss and not that pussy from Jersey, consider it law, subjects.

Adrian Ghenie

June 27, 2010 // Art

Adrian Ghenie has a striking use of composition and texture. However, it seems that he’s upset with something. Hopefully it’s nothing that I did. It looks like he paints with his palette knife. Maybe someone stole all his brushes! Never fear, Adrian! Justice will be served! Right after I finish my juicebox.

Music Monday

June 21, 2010 // MP3 + Monday + Music

Who likes summer? This guy. Also, me. The Drums just put out their debut album and it’s very summery. It’s something you can get a really attractive Teva tan to. In fact, I was listening to it yesterday while sipping a mountain dew through a swirly straw. It’s that summery.

As an added bonus, this song has the perfect tempo to practice The Carlton to.

Blockhead // The Music Scene

I watched this and then had a seizure. It’s that good. And don’t try to completely understand it. You’ll just end up having another seizure. Nobody wants their brain having two raves in one day.

Fashion Empire

June 19, 2010 // Design + Fashion + Illustration

John Woo made these which in turn made me giggle and clap my hands together three times. I’m gonna go buy a Darth Vader mask for every time I dress up now. Everyone will wonder who the guy with asthma and sharp suit in the corner is. It’ll be exactly how it is now, except I’ll be wearing a super nerdy mask.

No Fatties

June 17, 2010 // Hilarity + Random + Video

I realized after watching this video for the thirty-seventh time that I am fifteen years away from being laughed at by the entire internet. Better make the most of it and start growing my mustache now.

Somewhere

June 17, 2010 // Film + Video

Sofia Coppola seems to have made another Lost in Translation except that in this case, it’s Stephen Dorff and not Bill Murray who doesn’t know what his life means. I’ll probably still see it, even if to give credit that an amazing song was used for the trailer. (The Strokes // I’ll Try Anything Once)

A Skate Escalation

June 15, 2010 // Film + Skateboarding + Video

Brett Novak made a little film starring Kilian Martin and his skateboard. It was shot in a hazy, wonderful Los Angeles. It makes me wish I didn’t quit skating in seventh grade because I didn’t like scuffing my Airwalks.
